Woodland sessions are possible again for the littl Woodland sessions are possible again for the little ones!! Over the winter I tend to discourage outdoor photoshoots for the tiny ones but thank goodness Spring is here and this weekend was perfectly warm and sunny for some exploring! Outdoors photoshoots are perfect for little ones that just absolutely do not have sit still in their vocabulary! I have some parents that approach me that are worried about whether or not their child will stay still enough for a photoshoot and I’m here to remind you that they simply do not have to! I want your memories to feel authentic and so that means that your children can be 100% themselves. If that means that we climb trees, pop bubbles or get thrown into the air then that’s exactly what we do! If they do happen to snuggle in, then of course we capture that too (for the brief 2.5 seconds that it may last for!!) #cambridgeshirefamilyphotographer #holmewoods @sophrodden
A little glimpse into the wedding at Ely Cathedral A little glimpse into the wedding at Ely Cathedral on Friday for S+L, what a truly amazing day it was! A quiet and intimate day but my word a beautiful and grand one! I may have to go back and wander through the Almonry gardens again just to soak in the beauty of the blossoms, white tulips and admire it all with a cup of coffee. I have been lucky enough to photograph the cathedral before but you still forget quite how tall those ceilings are and how intricate the details are. The staff were so very welcoming on Friday so a huge thank you if any of you see this. It was also so lovely that a crowd had gathered by the entrance and were clapping as the couple made their super long aisle exit. Wedding season 2026 officially kicked off with a lovely bang and I’m so very excited for my other couples in the diary!! #elycathedral #cambridgeshirewedding #weddingphotographer #cathedralwedding #cambridge
Eeek! I used the new Polaroid yesterday! It was so Eeek! I used the new Polaroid yesterday! It was so lovely to give something physical over before I left and what a day to trial it out at the cathedral! I’ve learnt that it definitely struggles in low light - but the prints are so nostalgic that there is such a magic in them! Looking forward to continuing to test the Instax evo wide out and adding to the experience of your day. 💜🫶 Also who likes my suit?! If your dog is part of your everyday life, it make If your dog is part of your everyday life, it makes complete sense to have them be part of your wedding story too 🐾 This lovely Labradoodle joined their humans for their Stamford elopement and honestly…zero regrets were had. A few things I always suggest if you’re thinking about bringing your dog: • Have a dedicated dog person (not a guest you’re hoping will just “keep an eye on them”). Someone whose actual job is dog duty makes all the difference. • Plan when they’re involved – ceremony, a few portraits, then off for a walk or nap works perfectly. They don’t need to be there all day. • Accept they are still a dog – they might pull, get excited, or find the only muddy patch available 😅 If that thought stresses you out, do their photos early. • If you’re unsure, include them in your engagement shoot instead. You still get beautiful photos together without worrying about timings, outfits or chaos on the day. Honestly my biggest piece of advice? Do it if it will make the day feel more you…but plan it properly so you can actually enjoy it. I’m enjoying looking back at old photographs atm a I’m enjoying looking back at old photographs atm and how is this bridesmaid dress for you?! ALL the florals - I felt like a proper princess in this! In all seriousness if you are having flower girls or young bridesmaids at your wedding then my top tips are to leave it until closer to the day to source outfits for them, to dress them in whites or creams so that you can buy dresses/outfits in the sale that match but aren’t identical necessarily and to always have a second more comfortable dress or outfit that fits within the theme but will be easier for them to wear in case of tantrums, spillages or just so that they can play or feel a little more relaxed! Then after the majority of photos have been taken they can feel a little more comfortable. Always get tights, have a vest ready that doesn’t show at the collar and cardigans at the ready too incase there is a breeze on the day. Warm and comfortable flower girls are happy flower girls!! If your little one is wearing a suit then the same applies, have a second shirt at the ready in case of bolognese or chocolate cake and I would also advise trying to choose a linen fabric and or shorts on super hot summer days as suits have so many layers especially when they often have a little waistcoat too! #weddingadvice #weddingplanning #2026bride #2026weddingcouples #2026grooms
I had NO VIDEO of my Mum and me before this week. I had NO VIDEO of my Mum and me before this week. None at all! That’s unthinkable to most people now that we record every single moment on our phones. My Mum was cruelly taken by breast cancer at 41, before phones really became great at video and didn’t just look like a grainy mess. We’ve always been a family that values photos and prints yet video just wasn’t a habit for my parents and so we had no family videos at all! This week I got back in touch with an old family friend who converted their wedding video onto dvd for me to see if there was any footage and as a result…lots of tears have been shed this week! It felt so very magical watching my Mum in motion, even if it isn’t the version of her that I remember the most clearly. That smile and energy was the same, that unashamed joy was brought to life a bit like a Harry Potter photograph for me. For so many years since losing my Mum I have poured over photographs and treasured them…and now I have something that isn’t frozen in time. It’s really made me think about the power of video, and confirmed to me how very important it is that I capture moments of not just wedding couples but the little moments of everyone that attends their day. You just never know how important a few images or clips will become in years to come. Thank you Christian and Angie for letting me have this special memory and for letting me share it on here. It truly means the world.
