A Day That Brought the World to Ely
Some weddings feel big. Not just in scale, but in meaning, in the people, the stories, and the way everything comes together. This Ely Cathedral wedding, followed by a reception at The Almonry and its gardens, was exactly that.
A day full of heart, history, and people who had travelled from all over the world to be there.
From Aruba to Italy, Orlando to Venezuela, and Germany to Cambridgeshire, this wedding wasn’t just a gathering, it was a coming together. Different places, different lives, all meeting in one beautiful corner of the world to celebrate this couple.
You could feel it in every hug, every conversation, every moment on the day, this wasn’t just a wedding, it was something deeply meaningful.

A Ceremony at Ely Cathedral
There’s nothing quite like an Ely Cathedral wedding. The light, the scale, the quiet stillness before everything begins, it always feels significant.
And yet, somehow, even in a space that grand, the most important thing remained the same: them.
The way they looked at each other. The presence of their children beside them. The feeling that this was exactly where they were meant to be.
The Moments You Can’t Plan
This day had so many moments that you simply couldn’t script, the kind that make a wedding unforgettable.
Their eldest son, completely fire engine obsessed, had the surprise of a lifetime when a fire engine from Cambridge Fire Station turned up. Watching his face as he climbed into the driver’s seat, pure joy, the kind you don’t forget. Those are the moments that matter just as much as the vows.
Their little girl looked like something out of a storybook, the softest bonnet, the sweetest ruffled outfit, genuinely like a little cherub just being snuggled and adored through the day.
And then there were the quieter, equally powerful moments. A couple attending who were celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary – 60 years, on the very same day. A full-circle kind of love, witnessed in the same space as a beginning.
I also got to see one of my previous couples again, one of those heart-warming reunions that reminds me just how connected all of these stories become over time.
Reception at The Almonry & Gardens
The reception at The Almonry was everything you’d want it to be, relaxed, joyful, and full of life.
The gardens were in full bloom, with soft blossom and white tulips adding the most beautiful, natural backdrop. Guests gathered outside, drinks in hand, laughter carrying through the air, the kind of intimate atmosphere that doesn’t need forcing.
It just was.
Capturing It All – Digitally & On Instax
Alongside documenting the day in my usual documentary style, I also brought along my Instax Evo Wide to capture some moments on instant film.
There’s something about those images, slightly imperfect, completely tangible, that feels different. I used it for a mix of candid moments and a few gentle portraits, creating little keepsakes the couple could hold in their hands that same day.
In a world where everything lives on screens, that feels really special.
Why I Love Being a Cambridgeshire Wedding Photographer
Days like this are why I do what I do.
It’s never just about how a wedding looks, it’s about how it feels. The chaos, the emotion, the unexpected moments, the tiny details that end up meaning everything.
From the grandeur of Ely Cathedral to the intimacy of The Almonry gardens, this wedding held all of it.
